Blue Friday?

It should come as no surprise that the Top Story here in the Emerald City is tomorrow’s NFC championship match up between the Green Bay Packers and last year’s Super Bowl champs: the Seattle Seahawks.
What is surprising, at least to this blogger, is the extent to which some supposedly well-intended local city halls have gone to express their unabashed (Read: ridiculously over-the-top!) support for the home team.
Specifically, as excerpted from Eater Seattle (although, regrettably, I believe the story has now been covered nationally or even internationally, that is if there are any real football fans outside the U.S…):

Unwelcome in City Hall: ‘cheese or cheese flavored products.’
…According to a press release from the City of Bainbridge [Island, Wash.], someone found out that they have cheese in Wisconsin. And now, Bainbridge Island City Manager Douglas Schulze has issued a decree banning cheese in City Hall on Blue Friday*
‘Due to the relationship between the Green Bay Packers, their fans, and cheese, the possession and/or consumption of cheese or cheese flavored products shall be banned in Bainbridge Island City Hall on Friday, January 16, 2015.’
* Any Friday preceding a Seahawks game

Cheese ban decree

No surprise that Bainbridge Island City Hall had no comment if the decree had been fully-observed. Speaking for most of the rest of us, we had no problem eating mac & cheese, grilled cheese, cheese souffle, or any other cheese concoction we could think of yesterday. Probably not tomorrow, either, truth be told…
May the best team win (that would be the Hawks, of course.) And, oh, hold the cheese. (I’m watching my diet, ok, people!!!)

A FITTING “GLORIOUS GOODBYE”
For non-football fans (I know you’re out there), tomorrow, Sunday, Jan.18, will be Dame Edna’s final Amercian tour farewell performance at the Moore Theater.
According to SEATTLE TIMES, theater critic Misha Berson, “Like all great improvisers, [Dame Edna] does [her] local homework. So in Seattle, the first major stop on the tour…, Edna takes mild swipes at Bellevue, Mayor Murray and Big Bertha, along with digs at Bill Cosby (‘he offered to freshen up my drink’…) Ouch!
What’s not to love about this imperious 80 year-old, wildly-over dressed Aussie “lady”? Can’t think of a thing!
